Shay-La received her RYT 200 Yoga Teacher Certification from Thrive Yoga in Rockville, MD. She has a BS in Psychology from Howard University and an MEd in Research Methodology from the University of Pittsburgh. She’s worked with at-risk youth in the US, served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay and the Dominican Republic and did emergency relief work abroad. She currently works full time as the VP of Operations in a corporate environment.
In 2012, Shay-La started practicing yoga to help her recover from a back and hip injury she sustained in a car accident. She soon discovered that the benefits of yoga went far beyond the physical. In 2015, she pursued her yoga teacher certification to deepen her personal yoga practice. As she began to experience the transformation that yoga created in her life she also developed a passion for sharing the benefits of yoga with others.
Shay-La has a gentle yet challenging approach to her classes, a well-rounded and progressively sequenced practice, she encourages her students to be in tune with their bodies, build self-awareness that carries into daily life and find acceptance in where they are in the current moment. She strives to develop classes that are accessible to all levels and abilities and is committed to making sure her students feel safe and welcome.
Shay-La’s teaching is based in the Hatha tradition she teaches beginner level vinyasa flow, private and group sessions, and yoga boot camps.
